YOUR ROUTINE STARTS HERE

Tell us about your hot tub

Use your latest water test if you have one. If you don’t know a result, choose “Not sure.”

Check the product you currently use or your spa controls. Don’t combine chlorine and bromine products unless both labels explicitly confirm they’re compatible.

litres

Look for the operating water capacity in your spa specifications—not its outside dimensions. If the manual lists US gallons, multiply by 3.785 to estimate litres. Your capacity scales the published product reference amounts shown in your plan.

More bathers and longer sessions can increase the need for testing and water care.
Health Canada recommends 3–5 ppm free chlorine or bromine for residential spas. Follow your sanitizer label and test-kit directions.
A symptom can have more than one cause. Test first; a symptom-control product is not a substitute for correcting the cause.

YOUR HOT TUB MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

What should a hot tub water-care routine include?

A useful routine combines daily sanitizer testing, regular water-balance checks, filter care and a monthly review. Buy the products your test results call for; adding every available treatment can make troubleshooting harder.

Daily: test and check

Test free chlorine or bromine, check pH, look at the water level and confirm circulation. Test before a soak and pay extra attention after guests or heavy use. Keep a dated record. Health Canada recommends 3–5 ppm sanitizer for residential hot tubs.

Weekly: balance and clean

Run a complete water test, including alkalinity and calcium hardness as your spa requires. Resolve alkalinity before fine-tuning pH, allowing circulation and retesting between treatments. Inspect the filter and rinse trapped debris. Review oxidation needs for your existing sanitizer program.

Monthly: review the pattern

Check the cover, filter condition and recurring changes in your test log. Deep-clean reusable cartridges when their condition and the spa instructions call for it. Review water age and bather load; monthly maintenance does not automatically mean a monthly drain.

Which hot tub chemicals do you actually need?

The essentials are a sanitizer suited to your existing system, compatible test supplies and any balancer your readings require. Spa Quick 100 serves chlorine routines; Spa Bromine belongs to an established bromine routine. Alkalinity Plus raises low alkalinity, pH Plus raises low pH and pH Minus reduces high pH. Clarifier, foam control, enzymes and conditioners serve specific optional needs.

Choose the sanitizer for your existing system, then add balancers only when a test calls for them.

Hot tub water-care questions

How often should I test my hot tub water?

Test daily and before bathing. Extra use can change sanitizer demand, so retest after busy periods and after a chemical adjustment has circulated.

Should I add chlorine every day?

Test daily; decide on treatment from the result. The Quick 100 maintenance reference is 10 g per 1,000 L daily or as needed, but it is not an instruction to add chlorine when the residual is already sufficient. Retest before bathing.

Why is my hot tub cloudy even when I add sanitizer?

Sanitizer is only one part of the picture. Check pH, alkalinity, filter condition and circulation. Do not use a clarifier to cover up an unresolved low sanitizer reading, and keep bathers out until the water is clear and readings are suitable.

Can I use chlorine and bromine products together?

Keep the two systems separate. Never mix concentrated chemicals or put different products into the same feeder. Changing sanitizer systems needs a deliberate plan with Custom, rather than adding the other product to the existing water.

Does an enzyme or water conditioner replace sanitizer?

No. These are optional additions to an established routine. Maintain the required sanitizer residual and continue testing and filter care.

Where can I get help with hot tub water in London or Stratford?

Contact Custom’s London showroom or Stratford showroom. Send your plan with a recent test, spa capacity and the names of your current products.
