What does FLO mean on a hot tub?

FLO usually points to a water-flow or circulation condition on compatible controllers, but the exact meaning and response depend on the installed spa pack. Check the correct fill level, visible circulation and filter maintenance according to your manual. If the heater is disabled or the warning persists, arrange service.

What does HL mean on Bullfrog, MAAX or ŌWOW?

It depends on the controller. In Bullfrog's 2026 A/M-Series documentation, HL means the high-limit safety circuit has tripped. On some older Balboa controls found in other spas, HL/HFL refers to a sensor-temperature difference that may suggest inadequate flow. Never use an HL definition without confirming your panel.

What does Pr mean? Is it a hot tub error?

On applicable Bullfrog controls, Pr is listed as a temperature-probe or detection-circuit warning. On some older Balboa panels, Pr means priming mode after startup. The safest next step is to identify the controller and year before doing anything more.

Why is my hot tub not heating even though the jets work?

Check the actual temperature, heat mode, scheduled filtration and water level first. A dirty filter or insufficient heater flow can sometimes disable heating. Sensor faults, heater problems and electrical components require qualified diagnosis.

Do MAAX spas all use the same error codes?

No. MAAX and American Whirlpool spas have used different controls across models and production years. Confirm the installed keypad and equipment pack or the exact owner manual before using a Gecko- or Balboa-specific message table.

What do M016, M017 and M029 mean on ŌWOW?

On applicable Balboa BP-series controls, M016 indicates low heater flow, M017 indicates failed heater flow and M029 indicates excessive spa-water temperature. The actual screen may show words instead of the M-number, which can appear in a fault log. These definitions should not be applied to a portable VL260 panel.

Can I reset my hot tub error code myself?

Only when your model's manual instructs you to, after the underlying cause has been corrected. Do not repeatedly clear overheating, dry-heater, pump, electrical or high-limit faults. Never bypass flow switches, GFCI protection or thermal safety devices.

What should I do if my spa stops heating during freezing weather?

Treat the loss of heat or circulation as time-sensitive. Record the exact message, check only owner-visible items, and contact a qualified spa service provider promptly. Do not simply drain the shell; freezing water may remain in the plumbing and equipment.

Can a 120V hot tub be used through a Southwestern Ontario winter?

Yes, when the specific model is designed for winter use and is correctly installed, covered and maintained. Heating recovery and simultaneous heater-and-jet operation may be more limited, so confirm the exact configuration.

Does a 240V hot tub heat faster than a 120V hot tub?

A 240V configuration commonly supports a higher-output heater and can generally heat new water and recover lost heat faster. Actual performance depends on the model, water volume, insulation, cover, weather and controls.

Is a 120V hot tub cheaper to operate?

Not automatically. Energy cost depends on heat loss, insulation, cover condition, water volume, temperature setting, outdoor conditions and use—not voltage alone.

Can I convert a 120V hot tub to 240V later?

Some models are convertible and others are not. Confirm the exact configuration before purchase and use a Licensed Electrical Contractor for electrical work.

Which Custom LeisureScapes hot tubs can be configured for 120V?

Current comparison options include the MAAX 160 and Bullfrog X5L and X6R in 120V-capable configurations. Confirm the exact unit and local availability with Custom LeisureScapes before planning electrical work.

Should I choose voltage before choosing a hot-tub model?

Voltage is one part of the decision. Consider household size, seating fit, hydrotherapy, winter use, backyard space and installation before selecting the model and electrical configuration.

How many games should I plan for a pool party?

Short swims may only need two or three structured activities. Longer pool days benefit from a larger game deck, breaks and backup ideas.

What if not everyone is a confident swimmer?

Choose shallow-water, edge-based and dry-side roles, maintain active adult supervision and adapt every activity to the least-confident swimmer participating.

Can adults use the pool game generator too?

Yes. Adult, couple and date-day settings favour social, creative, resort-style and friendly-competition activities.

Can I swap only one game?

Yes. Main games can be rerolled individually, and matched backup games can be swapped into the current lineup.

Should I drain my pool before a major storm?

Do not make a major water-level change simply because a storm is forecast. Pool type, groundwater, drainage, cover and manufacturer requirements all matter. Follow the directions for your specific pool and ask a qualified pool professional when unsure.

Should I leave my hot tub full during a storm?

A filled hot tub is normally managed according to its manufacturer’s operating and cover instructions. Do not drain or alter it automatically because a storm is approaching. Request model-specific advice if flooding, freezing or a prolonged outage creates a concern.

What should I do if pool or spa equipment gets wet?

Do not touch, energize or test electrical equipment exposed to water. Keep people away and arrange an appropriate qualified inspection before taking another step.

Can I run pool or hot-tub equipment from a portable generator?

Do not improvise a connection. Generators must never operate indoors or in enclosed spaces, and any connection to a home electrical system must follow professional and regulatory requirements.

When is it safe to use a pool or hot tub after heavy rain?

Only after the site is safe, equipment is intact and operating appropriately, debris has been removed and the water has been tested and returned to the correct range. Possible floodwater entry requires qualified assessment.
